New Writing Gig

Through a somewhat random series of events, I applied for and was accepted as the Firefox News series reviewer for Avatar: The Last Airbender.  My review for “The Day of Black Sun” two part episode has already been posted (it does contain spoilers if you haven’t seen the episodes.)  This seems like it will be a really fun gig.  Unfortunately, the show is on hiatus now for who knows how long.

For those not familiar with the series,  Avatar: The Last Airbender is an animated fantasy airing on Nickelodeon.  It’s a surprisingly complex and beautifully crafted show that has garnered a sizable (and well deserved) fanbase.  Season 1 and Season 2 (referred to as “books”) are available on DVD. I highly recommend checking them out.

Nice. Congrats on the gig. I have yet to see Avatar. I think there was a movie not too long ago (Could be way longer though. Things get released here a bit later than in the US of A. Plus Anime isn’t that mainstream here yet. (here is South Africa)) But its on my must see list. Right up there with SteamBoy which I also haven’t had the pleasure of seeing. Congrats again.

Thank you. I believe there is an upcoming movie in the works, but it will be quite a while before it is released. Avatar is a great series, definitely worth checking out.

While I’m no fan of “stealing” creative works online (and this is definitely a form of theft), the website www.watch-avatar.com should help out those of you here Avatar isn’t otherwise available. Personally, I bought the DVDs and subscribed on iTunes but I have used the website to actually *watch* many of the episodes during breaks and lunches at my work, since bringing in the DVDs isn’t an option for me there. I’ve only ever been a fan of one Anime show, Cowboy Bebop, but this fluidly animated, beautifully conceived, strongly written show has easily pushed its way to number one on my short list. Found your blog by way of the Review you did, Jody. Great stuff, there and here.
